With much of our current focus being on remaining healthy, I wanted to share a few immunity boosting drink recipes to help you avoid illness and feel your best. Among other lifestyle choices, we have the option of adding (or subtracting) things in to our daily routine to better serve our overall wellness. The addition of anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and gut microbiome benefiting ingredients, can significantly decrease your chances of falling ill when being exposed to viruses and harmful bacteria. Here are a few of my go-to favorites!
Apple Cider Vinegar
This powerhouse drink (as foul as it may smell) has been used in many home remedies for centuries. Apple Cider Vinegar, or ACV, is a proven antimicrobial AND antioxidant.
For more on the incredible benefits of ACV, check out the link below:
The combination of a great source of vitamin C and another healing super-food (honey) makes for the perfect blend when upping your immunity game. Try this recipe daily before breakfast!
ACV Immune Booster (shot)
*2-4 oz. Fresh pineapple juice
*1 tbs. Organic Apple Cider vinegar; unfiltered
*1 tbs. Fresh squeezed lime juice
*1/2 tsp. Raw organic honey
Stir all ingredients together. Best if served cold.
Golden Milk
An ancient Indian drink known for its many benefits, Golden Milk combines spices including tumeric, ginger, and cinnamon to help reduce your risk for many health related issues. Besides being warm and aromatic, it is a potent antioxidant and contains many anti-inflammatory properties. To read more about each of these components, take a peek at this article: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/324181
Golden milk is available in health stores, online, and in some many grocery stores. But you can easily make golden milk at home!
Golden Milk Latte
*½ Cup nondairy milk, such as coconut or almond milk
*1 tsp Turmeric
*1 tbsp Grated fresh ginger or 1/2 tsp ginger powder
*1/2 tsp Ground cinnamon
*1 Pinch ground black pepper
(optional)1 tsp honey
(optional) 1 scoop of unflavored or vanilla flavored collagen powder
Combine all ingredients in a pot. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Let mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes (or until fragrant). To serve, strain the mixture through a fine strainer to remove the spices. Golden milk will keep in the refrigerator for around 5 days.
Infused Water
Staying hydrated is a huge advantage in your body's ability to stave off infection, alongside many other benefits you can find here: https://www.thewellnesswandererblog.com/post/your-hydration-information-station
And one of the best ways to ensure your drinking enough H2O is by adding fruits and herbs to make it more exciting. This can also add a dose of much needed Vitamin C to your glass, sans the dangerously high levels of sugar you would consume in a packaged juice drink. One of my favorite things to add to my water is lemon. It's easy peasy lemon squeezy! https://www.healthline.com/health/food-nutrition/benefits-of-lemon-water#how-to-make
Pack a Punch - Punch
*1-1.5 L of water
*1 Fresh Lemon, juiced
*1 Fresh lime, juiced
*1 tbs ginger powder or 1 inch freshly sliced ginger root
*4-6 Mint leaves, muddled
*Pinch of cayenne pepper
*Add a few pieces of additional fruit of your choice. I love a mix strawberries and raspberries!
Add all ingredients to water in large pitcher, allow to infuse overnight. Serve cold or add ice.
Drink up friends and stay well!
